I am thinking of purchasing a domain name for a personal business that I'll be starting in a little over a year. Doesn anybody have any idea how much this would cost or how I would go about doing it?

406 uses some weird domain name company because the one we were using merged with someone else. I don't particularly like it very much but it's 9.99 a year. Our website is hosted on http://asmallorange.com I really like this company and they are excellent with responding to support tickets. I pay 15 a month for the hosting service.

Yeah, godaddy.com has always been great for all the ones I've registered as a part of my job-- dozens and dozens of them.
