CINCINNATI -- Utility infielder/outfielder Jerry Hairston Jr. was traded by the Reds to the Yankees shortly before Friday's non-waiver Trade Deadline.

Hairston is batting .254 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs for Cincinnati this season. He was batting .353 (6-for-17) over his past seven games. He can play second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield positions.

In return, the Reds get Minor League catcher Chase Weems.
