or Buchholz, he's hoping to build on an impressive 2009 campaign, when he went 7-4 with a 4.21 ERA in his 16 starts after being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. But the 25-year-old admitted he's still learning the ropes in the Major Leagues. "Whenever I get in trouble, I'm always thinking about the pitch that I just threw and not the next pitch," said Buchholz after his final Grapefruit League start. "You want to keep a short memory with it, because you can make a bad pitch and then make a worse pitch and then give up a two-run homer instead of getting an out with the pitch prior. You can get yourself into some trouble like that. I've gotten a little bit better with forgetting about the results of the last hitter and going about my business."
So while Buchholz is still in the developmental stage of his career, Meche is a nine-year veteran with a career 4.43 ERA. Meche's been impressive in his three years in Kansas City with a combined 4.13 ERA in 555 1/3 innings, but he also threw just 129 innings last year because of injury. That's why his early season injury was so frustrating for the 31-year-old right-hander.
