Quote

Andrew Miller told the Boston Globe that his college teammate, Daniel Bard, throws harder than he does.
"He's a really good pitcher. He's got an unbelievable arm. He throws as hard as anybody you'll see. For a starter, he can get it up in the mid-to-upper 90s. It's real hard and his delivery is really free and easy. He doesn't muscle up anything. I talked to him while he was down in the instructional league and he was throwing 100 and 101 m.p.h. when he was down there and he was pretty excited about that," Miller said. "He throws harder than me. Not even a question," Miller added. Bard was the Bosox' first rounder in June.

Kid is really good, glad we signed him up, and according to the rest of the MLB the sox had the best 2006 draft out of every other MLB team. Lucky for us none of these guys will make an impact till 2009. Or they will be dealt to the Marlins or Padres.

I'll take it! We'll need him in 2008 if he can pitch for us then.

Daniel Bard made his first appearance in more than a month Tuesday, allowing two runs -- one earned -- in three innings for low Single-A Greenville.
Bard had been out with elbow tendinitis. He'll probably stay at Greenville for a while after getting off to a terrible start at high-A Lancaster.

After changing his mechanics in the off season and visiting a sports psychologist Bard has turned it around quite nicely. 14.1 ip 19k's but most importantly only 2 walks. Has not given up an earned run yet.

Bard posted some impressive numbers in Greenville. He made 15 appearances out of the pen, throwing 28 innings, and had a microscopic 0.64 ERA. He allowed just 12 hits and walked only 4, striking out 43 to boot. Clearly ready for a promotion, Bard was sent to Portland. He has a 2.63 ERA in 37.2 innings for the Sea Dogs, again striking out more than a batter an inning (46). His walk-rate has risen as a result of the improved opposition, but his numbers in Double-A, including a .201 BAA, remain impressive.
